Chapter 2 – What GOD knows, Satan exploits, and the Church has forgotten, Part 6

What Satan Exploits

Have you ever considered that the reverse of Proverbs 22:6 is also true?  That if you raise up a child in the way that he should NOT go, even when he is old he will not depart from it?

Our enemy, Satan, is evil but he is no dummy. So if this were true we could expect to see him exploiting it for his own purposes.  What kind of punches is he throwing at us?  Where is he trying to hit hardest? At the risk of killing any future Presidential aspirations I might have, I’d like for us to consider just a few cases.

Influencing Education

Remember that old song from the play South Pacific, “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught?” Catchy little tune and scarily true.  Ask yourself, what is one of the key battlefields today for advancing sexual deviance, abortion, and anti-Christian values?  It only takes a glance at the headlines to find the answer.

“Mandatory Homosexual Indoctrination in Grade School Survives” (LifeSiteNews.com October 8, 2008)

“Study Shows Public Schools Indoctrinate Even Christian Kids” (Jim Brown and Jenni Parker, Agape Press, Friday, November 26, 2004)

“Public Schools Evolving into Indoctrination Centers and Day Camps‎” (Thursday, 05 January 2012, AMERICAN DREAM)

For decades in the arena of public education, certain political and atheist groups, with their extreme left social agenda, have been convenient and often unwitting tools for the enemy of our children’s souls.  Where else do you have access to such a large, captive audience of children?   These groups’ dream scenario of course is that, with parents out of the way and mostly unaware of what is being taught, they would be free to preach their own “doctrines” that promote “ideals” like sexual promiscuity, deviance and disrespect for the role of parents, to name but a few examples.  Why would our enemy be so bent on trying to influence education? If he can succeed in indoctrinating these children now he is practically guaranteed future adults sympathetic to his godless worldview.

The success of atheistic and statist organizations in influencing education, of course, varies from state to state and school to school depending on the leadership and teachers of that school, the community in which it is located, and the involvement of the parents in the education of their children.

Please do not be confused. I am NOT saying we should all withdraw from public education.  I am a product of public schools and my children have attended public school in Virginia. Thankfully there are still a great number of fine public elementary schools staffed by dedicated teachers who struggle day in and day out because they love children. These individuals deserve our prayers and our support and certainly should not be condemned as part of the problem.  They are on the front lines. If anything we should be encouraging more committed Jesus followers to enter the teaching profession from grade school right through the University level.  While there exist today more educational options, like home school and private Christian schools, public education is not a brawl we can afford to withdraw from if we are to have any hope of leaving an intact civil society to our children.

…more on Wednesday.
